Luciferase genes from the North American firefly （Photinus pyralis） and from other beetles are commonly used as reporter genes for studying transcription regulation in transient assay systems and as markers for stably transformed eukaryotic cells. Beetle luciferin （also known as ） is synthesized as the monopotassium salt and is a substrate for the beetle luciferase reporter systems. is provided for those researchers who prefer to formulate their own assay reagents for monitoring in vitro or in vivo luciferase activity.

 

Formulation: Supplied as a potassium salt for easy preparation in aqueous buffer.

 

Can be used in solution assays in which the production of light can be monitored with either a luminometer or a scintillation counter.

Can penetrate cell membranes, allowing transformed cells to be monitored for luciferase activity.
