Oligodendrocyte lineage transcription factor 2 （OLIG2） is a member of a family of basic helix–loop–helix （bHLH） transcription factors. OLIG2 is expressed only in the central nervous system （CNS） and plays an important role in the development of brain cancers. Tissue specificity: Expressed in the brain, in oligodendrocytes. Strongly expressed in oligodendrogliomas, while expression is weak to moderate in astrocytomas. Expression in glioblastomas highly variable.
